Rare Receipt for Runaway Negroes Committed to Jail Baptist Very fine original photographic CarteAn important late 18th or early 19th century manuscript originating in North Carolina recording the commitment of seemingly a family of slaves, reputedly as runaways and awaiting return to their owner. This seems likely as slaves were rarely jailed for anything else, especially women. Includes a woman [here, wench], her two children, two men, and another woman. Perhaps two couples attempting escape.
