Whilst known largely as a landscape artist, Christiansen also produced paintings like this one, depicting intimate portraits of others. The titular mother and child in this piece are largely obscured; typical of Christiansens work, his subject is subject to a soft blurring that makes it hard to fully make out what he is choosing to show us. Yet, this in turn
